What Are the Top 6 Must Dos Before Leaving Home on Your Next Vacation

Heading out on vacation? Here are our top 5 must dos before leaving home so you have a no worries getaway.

The vacation countdown is on and everyone is ready for an amazing getaway! But, what should you do before leaving on vacation? Before you head off on your exciting adventure, here are some friendly tips to make sure you have the best time possible:

1. Travel Docs, Check! - First things first, don't forget to grab your passport, visa (if needed), and any other important documents. Double-check them like you're about to embark on a quest (because, well, you kind of are!). Pack copies of important documentation separate from originals, this will help facilitate replacing documents or arranging accommodations should something get misplaced while traveling. Even when traveling domestically consider traveling with a copy of any minors’ identification even if it not required by a destination or airline, in the rare event it is needed it does not hurt to have it handy!

2. Pack Like a Pro - Think about what you'll need based on your destination. Sunscreen for the beach, an umbrella for London, or a cowboy hat for Texas - you get the idea. And don't stress too much if you forget something; you can often buy it on the road. It is always helpful to budget a bit of extra cash in case you need to snag a sweater or a new pair of reading glasses in a pinch. Make sure your personal can luggage meets your airline’s size and weight requirements to avoid unexpected fees. A good set of packing cubes can help you stay organized and maximize the use of space.

3. Home Sweet Secure Home - Make sure your home is locked up tight before you go. Ask a friendly neighbor to keep an eye out, and maybe even water your plants. Leave them a gift card or small gift as a thank you, and be sure to return the favor when they are out of town. If you are traveling for more than a few days you may want to see if the United States Postal Service offers USPS Hold Mail service in your area by checking at www.USPS.com.

4.Travel With Ease - Weather can effect travel plans. Check on the weather forecast both in your departing location and your destination. If flying be sure to check your flight status before heading to the airport. If traveling via car be sure that proper maintenance has been done and consider enrolling in a road side assistance program.

5. Money Matters - Give your bank a heads up about your travel plans. No one wants their card to be unexpectedly declined while buying a delicious croissant in Paris or a brand-new set of Mickey ears in the Magic Kingdom. Also, it's smart to have some cash in the local currency just in case. Travel with more then one payment method as not all credit cards are widely accepted in all destinations. Have some cash on hand for tips, small vendors and in the instance, there are any technical difficulties processing electronic payments.

6. Share the Love (or at least the itinerary) - Share your travel plans with a friend or family member. That way, someone knows where you're supposed to be and has the ability to reach you if needed. Check in periodically with friends at home to let them know of changes in plans and to share some tidbits about your adventure. Ask who wants to be your safety companion for sharing transportation information and to use safety features to share your ride information with ride share platforms like Lyft.

Bonus Tip: **Adventure Awaits** - Finally, remember that travel is all about new experiences and making memories. So be open to trying new things, meeting new people, and savoring every moment. Be sure to schedule some time to chat with your Travel Agent or Advisor before heading out to go over any last-minute questions, review your plans and share in the excitement! You're about to embark on an amazing journey, so enjoy every bit of it!
